A Meeting of the Minds...

by indieBarn staff on 01/21/12

HI, we are Steve Kpakiwa and Zack Gingrich. Together we are the minds behind this diabolical plan to TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!< (insert villainous laughter here). But really, we so happen to be the minds behind our brain child we call indieBarn.com. How did we get the idea? Well, it's funny that you should ask, so I'll go head and answer you. It was a foggy Saturday night, little over two years ago, I (Steve) with the aid of liquid mind juice, informed Zack, who happened to be attending the same party, of my brilliant idea on how I wanted to build a sort of hub for all walks of indie art. Everything from indie films, music, art, writing, fashion, modeling and more.

Why you ask? Well why the hell not I say in replay! But if you really want the real reason behind my idea, it goes something like this. I am in love with writing, since my very first book of which I wrote back in the third grade, The Woman with the Alligator Purse. Actually now that I think of it, it might've just been a rewrite of someone else's book. Oh, what the hell, it was an amazing rewrite, with kick ass pictures. Of which I drew myself, thank you very much. Anyway, with my love for writing, my brother Paul Kpakiwa (Knoxx)'s love for music, my brother Sam's love for film, my sister Finda's love for fashion and the rest of my siblings love for the arts, I thought to myself Hey dude, why not build a place where you can share your idea and network with others that share the same love as you? I know, pretty sick idea! But that was how indieBarn.com was born.

So as the party went on and the liquid mind juice kept flowing, I kept informing Zack about my idea more and more and more. But something happened, he wasn't just hearing my words and thoughts, he was listening and giving me feedback. Needless to say, it was an epic night of mastermindery! But just like any party, there came an end, which lead to a morning or regrets and a 24 hour resolutions of what you'll never do or drink again. One of my resolutions that morning, get started on my website idea. Another resolution, stop telling people about my idea cause A, it's a waste of time and they don't care or B, someone might steal it. BUT to my surprise, my phone rings and it's ZACK on the other side and dude is just as stoked about the idea on the phone as he was the night before. I knew then we were cruising on the same level (insert sappy/family feel good/aha moment music here).

So long story short, we had a few meeting, shared some ideas and after a few weeks we had officially launched indieBarn.com 1.0 and boy let me tell you, it was not the most eye candied site in the world. But you know what, it was our baby, a bit ugly, but our baby nonetheless. After a few revisions and tweaks here and there, determining our best and worst aspects, we've finally reached our new look that you see here today. A site based around indie music across the board. From hip-hop to country to jazz to pop, if it's good and has meaning/soul/art/love in it, we'll do our best to shine the spotlight on it. So please, when browsing our site and blogs, just know that a lot of love and creativity has been poured out of Zack and myself, for you entertainment and soulful poorhouses.

With that said, please enjoy yourselves and may your days and nights be filled with things that bring you as much joy as music does for us. One Love...indie!
